On Monday March 10th 2008 a SHIRBRIG representative left the HQ on Hovelte Barracks for a six months tour to the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT)

Major Lars Schmidt from Denmark, who is Staff Officer Mine and Engineer of the Planning Element of the Stand By High Readiness Brigade, will act as Liaison Officer between the United Nations and the European Union. He is sent out in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1778 from 25 September 2007 to establish in Chad and the Central African Republic, in concert with the European Union, a multidimensional presence intended to help create the security conditions conducive to a voluntary, secure and sustainable return of refugees and displaced persons.
He will be located at the UN HQ in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad.
