Handover of SHIRBRIG memorabilia to the Danish UN Museum

On 15 October the first batch of SHIRBRIG memorabilia was handed over to the Danish UN Museum, located in Froeslev, a beautiful part of South Jutland only about 3 kilometres from the German border. The museum was a prison camp during World War 2 and was afterwards turned into a museum. The UN Museum was established in 1990 in two of the red wooden huts. The museum is run by a group of volunteers with Mr. Per Hjortshoej as manager. You can read about the museum on their website www.fnmuseet.dk.

Since the UN Museum cooperates with the Danish Museum of Arms and Uniforms it was decided by COMSHIRBRIG and the two museum leaders that almost all UN related items should go to the UN Museum.

Shield and flags are presented to the museum

It is the intention to set up a temporary exhibition about SHIRBRIG in the 2010 season and then after the season make the exhibition permanent in order to let visitors see something from the extraordinary history of the only UN dedicated brigade in the world.

Handover of medal papers

As part of the memorabilia handed over was two SHIRBRIG Planning Element medals. This medal is only produced in 100 samples, of which 83 was given to personnel serving in the Planning Element and number 100 was given to the Museum of Arms and Uniforms while numbers 98 and 99 was handed over to the UN Museum.

SHIRBRIG expects the second and last batch of memorabilia to be handed over to the museum at the end of 2009, thereby enabling the museum to set up a good exhibition of SHIRBRIG next year.
